01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Cafe Del Fondo is a delightful gem nestled in the heart of Santiago de Querétaro’s Centro district, offering an authentic taste of Mexican cuisine combined with a warm, inviting café atmosphere. Specializing in traditional Mexican fare, this cozy spot on Calle José María Pino Suárez 53 masterfully balances simplicity with savor, making it a favorite among locals and visitors alike.

The restaurant’s menu shines with classic dishes that echo the flavors of home: from hearty enchiladas and flavorful tacos to fresh, crisp salads and well-prepared platillos con pollo that comfort and satisfy. Their breakfast selection is reminiscent of a slow, lazy morning full of rich, satisfying tastes, while the lunch service features a thoughtfully crafted set menu that feels like a loving nod to grandma’s cooking—robust, effortless, and deeply comforting.

One of the true stars at Cafe Del Fondo is their coffee, sourced from high-altitude plantations in Veracruz and Chiapas. This 100% organic, gourmet coffee blend engages the senses with its rich aroma and full-bodied flavor profile, offering coffee lovers an authentic Mexican experience with every sip. For those who enjoy grinding their beans fresh, the café also sells whole and ground coffee, allowing you to tailor your experience to your exact liking.

Step inside, and you’re welcomed by an artsy, bohemian-style interior that defies expectations. The charming decor, accentuated by a small indoor fountain and flourishing plants, creates a serene oasis amidst the bustling city streets. It’s a place where time feels a little slower, perfect for lingering over your meal or a carefully brewed cup of coffee. Whether you choose to dine in their inviting garden terrace or cozy indoor nook, the relaxed ambiance encourages unhurried conversations and a genuine connection to the local culture.

Customers appreciate the value here — “probably the best value in the city,” as one visitor puts it — with prices that feel incredibly reasonable given the quality and authenticity of the food. Service is friendly and warm, if occasionally a bit laid-back, underscoring the unpretentious nature of this beloved neighborhood spot.

In summary, Cafe Del Fondo offers a flavorful journey through classic Mexican dishes paired with exquisite, high-altitude coffee in a charming, relaxed setting. It’s the perfect destination for travelers seeking genuine local flavors without fuss, and locals looking for a comforting meal in friendly surroundings. Whether you’re grabbing a quick taco to go, settling in for a leisurely breakfast, or enjoying a cup of artisanal coffee on their garden terrace, this café embodies the heart and soul of Querétaro’s culinary scene.

Probably the best value in the city. + price. If you have dollars, this is like eating for free. Seriously. + standard Mexican fare, tasty + sort of artsy bohemian interior + location - Service is average by mexican standards (i.e. mediocre)

It’s actually nicer inside than pictures let on. They don’t pretend to be anything fancy, just simple, inexpensive, and satisfying Mexican breakfasts in a charming setting! Lunch is only a set menu, with a few customizable options, good though, like eating at your Mexican grandma’s house!

Ahí me cuentas ... O no jajaja

A pesar de que estaba lleno, la atencion fue buena y rapido, todo muy rico, los chilaquiles no fueron mucho de mi agrado por que no son guisados, aunque son totopos, es con salsa encima. Pero por lo demas todo bien y el precio accesible.
